[Translate to English:] Wichtige Information: Microsoft stellt Basic Authentication für Exchange Online ein

Important information: Microsoft is discontinuing Basic Authentication for Exchange Online

Microsoft has officially announced that it will discontinue Basic Authentication (username/password) for sending emails via SMTP AUTH. This change affects systems that send emails through “smtp.office365.com” — such as devices, applications, or scripts.

Timeline according to Microsoft:

  • Start of deprecation: March 1, 2026
  • Complete end of Basic Auth for SMTP AUTH: April 30, 2026

What does this mean for you?
If you are using SMTP AUTH with Basic Authentication in your environment to send emails, you must switch to Modern Authentication (OAuth 2.0) or other alternatives recommended by Microsoft. Otherwise, email sending will no longer work by April 2026 at the latest.
